What is the Wish List?
The Wish List is a new program that allows people to pledge donations towards a specific item or items. This allows people to support an area they are most interested in or where they feel it is most needed.
What items are on the Wish List?
Items on the Wish List cover a wide range of activities and price ranges. They are things that are beyond the school’s normal operating budget that would improve some aspect of life at LCW.
Why do we need a Wish List? We already do a lot of Fundraising!
The Wish List contains items that are not included in the current school budget. They may be “nice to have” or they may support a specific activity. In some instances where the cost of the item is significant, such as Interactive Whiteboards, funds pledged via the Wish List may be combined with money from the School and / or the P&C to purchase that item.
Do I have to contribute to the Wish List?
No, contributions towards Wish List items are completely voluntary.
Do I have to pledge the entire cost of an item?
No, you can pledge the entire amount for an item or pledge a lesser amount and contribute towards the overall cost of an item.
If I pledge an amount towards the overall cost of a specific item when is the money collected?
Payment is due at the time of the pledge. The P&C Treasurer will deposit your donation and track the amount pledged against each item on the Wish List. When the website is developed you will be able to see how much has been pledged against every item on the list.
Does the Wish List replace any of our existing fundraising plans?
No, the Wish List is ongoing and will run alongside all other traditional fundraising. Our aim is to use existing fundraising and voluntary contributions to support our agreed portion of the school budget, normal operating expenses and some Wish List items. By having the Wish List we hope to be able to grant more “wishes” than we could with our existing funds.
Is the Wish List final?
No, the Wish List is fluid and will be updated as items are purchased and new items are identified.
How are new items placed on the list?
Items can be placed on the Wish List as they are identified by parents, staff or students and approved by P&C and/or School Executive
How do I suggest an item for the Wish List?
We hope to have the facility for people to suggest items for the Wish List via the P&C Website when it is redesigned. Until then, please contact Christine Abel or Judy Doherty to suggest an item.
How does it work?
If you would like to make a pledge, please review the Wish List and complete the form. In the future, the Wish List will be available on the newly designed P&C Website. If you can’t find the form or access the website please don’t hesitate to contact Christine Abel or Judy Doherty.
How can I pay for my donation?
You can pay via cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa or M/C only). Please make cheques payable to the Lane Cove West P&C Association. All forms can be returned to the office marked for the attention of the Treasurer.
Will I receive a tax deduction for my donation?
Tax deductibility will depend on the item you choose to contribute towards. If the item can be purchased from either the Building or Library Funds then you will automatically receive a tax receipt. Tax deductible items are identified on the Wish List.
If you would like to contribute to an item that is not identified as tax deductible, please contact Christine Abel or Judy Doherty to discuss the possibility of receiving a tax deduction.
Why are some items not eligible for tax deductions?
The rules for tax deductions are determined by the ATO. At the current time, we can only issue tax receipts from the Building or Library Funds. There are restrictions on what we can buy with money from these funds. If an item can be purchased with money from either of these funds then the donation is eligible for a tax deduction.
How will I know if an item has been “purchased” or how much money is still needed towards a specific item?
Once the website development is completed you will be able to see the amount of money pledged towards every item. We will also provide regular updates via Chatters. Until then you can always contact Christine Abel or Judy Doherty.
Can I keep my donation anonymous?
Pledges will be visible on the P&C Website when it is launched. You will be able to specify how you would like your donation listed, by family name or as anonymous. We will also acknowledge pledges in Chatters, if you would prefer your donation to be anonymous just let us know.
What happens if an item has money pledged towards it but not enough to purchase the item?
One of the benefits of the Wish List is it allows people to pool their donations towards a specific item over time. As the cost of some items is significant we expect it will take time to collect enough money to purchase that item. In some instances funds from the Wish List may be supplemented with funds from the P&C and/or the school to purchase an item.
If a small percentage of the cost of an item has been pledged with no other pledges over a prolonged period of time then we may contact you to see if you would like to re-allocate your donation towards another item. Hopefully this will be a rare occurrence and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
